Calculate the Benefits of Green Printing
There’s a lot of buzz around going green to cut costs and reduce the environmental footprint of printing and imaging infrastructures. Hewlett-Packard may help solution providers turn buzz into sales with this week’s introduction of a broad, eco-oriented initiative for SMBs and enterprises.
The announcement in part introduced two new assessment tools that have a green-printing orientation. Together they help organizations estimate printing-infrastructure carbon emissions and project cost savings for optimized printing environments.
The HP LaserJet Power Calculator compares HP LaserJet printers and competitor’s products using product-specific energy data (see http://www.qualitylogic.com/News/Instant-on_PerformanceReport.html).
The data also compares older HP devices with the latest entries, which can help solution providers sell the value of tech refreshes. Among the key data points highlighted in the evaluations are energy savings in kilowatt hours and the estimated dollar value derived from upgrading.
The HP Carbon Footprint Calculator will compare the carbon impact of an existing printer fleet to one better optimized for green printing. Areas to be covered include printer energy and paper use and monetary costs tabulated for geographical variances. The online tool will be available at the end of June.
Finally, HP also announced it will offer Eco Printing Assessments for enterprise customers to gauge their energy consumption, paper usage and carbon emissions, and recommend ways to use less energy and paper, recycle more and reduce the impact of imaging and printing.
