New Standard Address eDiscovery Pain
The Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) XML standard is gaining steam as more software vendors announce their support for the platform. Wider adoption of the standard promises to make it easier for solution providers to develop answers to the tricky task of adhering to eDiscovery regulations.
EDRM, developed by a consortium of software companies, legal firms, and other commercial businesses, offers a standard way for applications and systems to share electronic content and metadata related to eDiscovery activities. eDiscovery laws require companies to have ready access to all electronic information including e-mails in the event of a legal inquiry, continue to be one of the critical areas for content management systems.
One of the latest adopters of EDRM XML is Mimosa Systems, which provides live content archiving solutions. In a statement, the company said it expects EDRM XML will reduce end user costs by eliminating the need for IT and legal departments to convert data formats when they exchange electronic information among different applications.
