A Digital Stepping Stone
Networked scanners are becoming much more widely deployed across U.S. businesses, a trend that may pave the way for increased penetration of document-management solutions.
That’s the conclusion of InfoTrends’ latest scanner survey, “U.S. Document Imaging Scanner Survey Report: 2007. The research company found that installations of network scanners more than doubled over the last four years. In 2004, only 16 percent of respondents in an earlier survey said they had deployed a network scanner. That number jumped to 34 percent in the latest findings.
The wider deployments of network scanners will help business users become more familiar with the technology, especially for tasks that boost individual productivity, such as scanning documents to files or for attaching to e-mails, InfoTrends said.
The firm added that these uses could become stepping stones for enabling digitization of paper documents and in turn for applications built around storing and accessing digital information in specific business processes.
